SMBO Labs

Explore emerging ideas without overstating what they are.

SMBO Labs is the Group’s home for innovation, research, prototypes, product concepts and internal technology initiatives. Every item should make its maturity and evidence status clear.

Role within the Group

A clear place for investigation and development.

Labs separates emerging work from current client-facing implementation. This allows an idea to be explored on its own terms without implying that a finished product, deployment or commercial pathway already exists.

Boundary

Exploration is not implementation.

A Labs item may connect to SMBO Solutions only when a current implementation path is confirmed. Until then, its status remains research, prototype, concept or internal work.

Status vocabulary

The label tells you how to read the work.

These definitions set the publication standard for future Labs entries. They do not indicate that a specific public item currently exists in every category.

Research

What this label means

A documented investigation or learning activity. It does not imply a deployable product or client result.

Prototype

What this label means

A test implementation used to explore feasibility or use. It is not presented as production-ready.

Product concept

What this label means

A proposed product direction that is not a confirmed or available product.

Internal project

What this label means

Work developed for internal use or learning. It does not imply client adoption.

Framing an idea

Three questions before a claim is made.

This is an editorial frame for describing exploratory work clearly, not a claim of a proprietary Labs methodology.

  1. 01

    Is the need clear?

Define the emerging problem, who it affects and why it is worth investigating before choosing a technical direction.

  2. 02

    What needs to be learned?

Identify the question a piece of research, a prototype or a concept is intended to explore.

  3. 03

    What does the evidence support?

Describe maturity and findings accurately without turning early exploration into a claim of readiness.

Labs work

Only approved items belong in the public record.

No named Labs research, prototype, product concept, internal project or proprietary solution is presented here without confirmed ownership, status, description and publication approval.

Publication gate

This page intentionally contains no placeholder projects.

Approved Labs items will be published through Our Work with their source and maturity identified.

An emerging question

Have an idea that needs careful exploration?

Share the problem, opportunity or research question. The first step is to clarify what needs to be learned—not to assume a product already exists.
